On October 22nd. Grabling went to Fashion Week Shanghai to watch the Grand Final EcoChic Design Awards. Organized by Redress, an organization which promotes young designers who create their work from second-hand market cloths and production leftovers from factories by using three techniques:
- Zero-waste: is a pattern design technique that eliminates textile waste at the design stage
- Up-cycling: is the recycling of a material into a product of higher quality
- Reconstruction: is the process of making new clothes from used garments or performed products
ESPRIT, who had Gisele Bündchen pose for their Summer campaign this year, was one of the sponsors who gave the opportunity for the winner to design a sustainable collection for their stores in China. Margaret Kutt, sustainability project manager at ESPRIT was one of the judges present.
Another wonderful part of the fashion show was that all the models wore Melissa shoes which is a Brazilian brand currently featured by top model Alessandra Ambrosio.
Thanks to the charismatic Dr. Christina Dean, founder of Redress and organizer of the EcoChic Design Awards, Grabling watched all from the VIP seat in the front row.
